So this will be my 5th XJ rebuild, and it will be a slow one. Due to I have no idea what direction it will go. For starters it will be 3 to 4.5in lift but power plant and tranny still undecided. It will be a 4.0 or diesel (1.9TDI) and auto or stick (i have both). So enjoy the pics

LS1's drop right in..... I think there's a couple of manufacturers that are making kits now for that swap.

I only know two of your xj builds but one word to ponder Matt... Jeepspeed!

Its already kind of blown apart to install a cage and can put good parts back in when you rebuild it.

Think on it.

Hope i can help out on this on, be fun to work on.

I'm thinking 1.9TDI w/ 5spd for the win!!! Even more so if you can build up a jig while you're doing the mounts and such to be able to make more later!! LOL

Fix it back up stock, sell it, make some good money, and then buy something else.

Ok since I layed around in bed sick yesterday, and fed up with the TV I decided to find the end of the internet. So I started looking for a Diesel swaps in a XJ

And I found this company

http://www.mercedesdiesel4x4.com/

The funny part is I have a OM617 short block and 2 turbos at the shop also known as the 3.0 5cly diesel from a mid 80 300SD Kit price about $400 for the adapter

I am still fond of the VW 1.9 TDI swap but the price tag is uber hard to swallow 5k without motor

So what are your opinions???

I haven't been a fan of diesels such as the 4BT because of the weight. However since looking at the stuff on the VW diesels I may change my mind. Cotyworks has the stuff for the 1.9. But after driving the 2014 Grand Cherokee with the 3.0 turbodiesel and knowing it out performs a 5.7L Hemi, I may change my mind on this. VW also has a 3.0L that puts out 235 hp and a 4.0 that puts out 285 hp. That could be real interesting

Just as long as its done right, i think it would be a unique and capable build. Don't know much about those engines but future repairs and other costs may help make that decision.

I think it could be fun. Those engines are fairly reliable and not too difficult to work on.... plus you could tell everybody that you drive a Benz :D Only this one will be better than the G-Wagons :P

So this Friday was productive!!! The title was transferred into my name. I crawled the pallet rack to have a peak at the 5cly benz motor. And to my surprise i'm only missing a head. So the next step will be to make the jeep a roller and sort out the tranny aka Stick or Auto.
