Jingle Jeep 2013

I know its short notice, and i'm sure most of you already have plans but i'm putting this out there to mull over.

Saturday, the 21st from 2-9pm there's an event going on where 100-150 (expected) jeeps are gonna parade to take toys to the child cancer patients at memorial hermann. I've been decorating the xj (and fixing the brakes) for the last couple weeks getting ready for this. So, God willing, we're gonna be there!!! Sounds like a fun time, and with how much cancer has impacted our lives it'll feel good to help out these little guys.

So, if you feel like stringing a set of lights (or not even) and coming down for an epic line of jeeps to take some sick kids toys for Christmas, get on down. It'll be something to remember, and fun for the whole family.

That sounds like a great cause Jake. I hope you guys get a big turnout. I think cancer has affected almost everyone, I lost my mother to it. I wish I could be down there for the event but it is just too far. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

I can surely understand not coming from four states away. Although i will say we have one coming 1100 miles from Colorado. But, hopefully the expected rain won't deter too many. I do hope its grand!

Got up and the weather didn't look too great, trees whipping and still dropping some rain. Radar looked bad immediately, but if we waited a bit it would clear. So i did a few more things to the decorations and got ready. By the time we left out the rain had finally stopped and only had a few drops the rest of the day.

With all this hanging on to all sides of the jeep i worried a little about decorating the highway before we got there... but only had one ribbon come loose on the hood and acquired it before it flew away!

Finally getting to the staging area a hour and a half late i got to see the amount of jeeps that showed up for this great cause. After a few more showed up my final tally was 42!!! Unfortunately only 2 of those were XJs, with every other being the Wrangler species... :D

With all of the great people who came out and previous donations we were able to successfully fill TWO cargo vans full with toys!!!

So, using what time i had left before the happenings i finished what i could of the decorations and spent some time looking over others' rigs and decorations. Some very nice jeeps here!

Then there was judging, after Santa showed up, for the Most Festive Jeep contest. There was top three, of which i didn't place.

Next was the drivers meeting for the parade, once the police arrived for the escort. Chose to wait a little for it to get a little darker so the lights would really pop. And finally set off for the hospital.

Forty two, decorative and lit jeeps escorted through the med center was an awesome experience to say the least. Due to the hospital only wanted a certain amount of people upstairs the majority of us had to drive by for the children to view out the windows. I unfortunately didn't get a chance to look for them, it was all i had to focus on the parade with pedestrians and such around. And finally back to the staging area for those that needed to break down their decorations to head over to the sponsors store (American Wheel and Tire). Didn't need to do anything to mine since their all "highway rated and proven" :D so i took time for more pics and chatting. Most had left when the last four of us caravanned over there.

Over at the store there was cookies, hot cocoa, and once some of the others that were at the hospital arrived the awards for the Most Festive Jeep contest.

The plan had been to go from there to a subdivision a little ways away that is known for having great house and yard decorations. Not a small place either i might add! Unfortunately the majority of the people still with the group felt tired and hungry so the family and i headed over there alone, and later saw one other driving through there a couple times. The lights were nice, and plenty of them. In fact i think we were there a couple hours and probably only viewed maybe half of them. There was bumper to bumper traffic through there with undoubtedly thousands of cars viewing.

To my amazement, we seemed to be the main attraction. I wouldn't even try to count the amount of yelled comments and waves and honks we got. Even a few "I wike youwr jeep!" from children. A "that's rad!", a few "that's awesome!" Countless smiles! I also can't imagine how many pics i saw being taken of us. If you ever want to be the center of attention... decorate your jeep. After we left and got some food we were headed down the feeder road for one of the highways and saw something to the left. It was a car in the left lane on the highway slowing to match our speed and we could easily see the flash of a phones camera. :smiley-laughing021: It was really getting insane the draw this gets from people. It may actually become dangerous are some point. :eek: But all in all it made my night to make so many smile, after a day of making Christmas better for those kids.

I was surprised to see something like it here, and knew i couldn't miss out on it. This was just a jeep club that set up a sponsor and got this together so i don't think it would too hard for another to do so. If you have a club there, might suggest it. Just an idea!

We have a couple of clubs here but unfortunately theyre not as "community friendly" as they would like you to think....they only go out and clen up trails but thats very seldom
