My 1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer edition
4.0 i6 5 speed 4x4.
4.5 inch lift. getting coil spacers. wheel spacers and all the goodies.
Need help figuring out what motor to put in this beast guys. help out. throw some motors out there. had some motors in my mind but not sure on one yet. was thinking a chevy 283, my chevy 383 stroker, a ford 300 6. or a chevy 4.3 v6. need a good motor that can take the R's. and has to have good low end torque. going to be my offroad rig. mostly crawling and the ocasional mud pit or 3 or 4 or 6 haha. throw some motors out there guys.

How about a 4.0 :p lol. The 383 is intriguing, but we have a moderator on here that's done a 4.3 swap. His name is... 4.3LXJ! He can give you feedback on how that motor does for him.

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 because my microwave couldn't do it

It has been a good motor. Getting close to 300K on it now and going to need a refresh. You can make them go to 300 hp with some work. But if it is just a trail rig, put the 383 in

well guys its looking like im going with a motor swap sooner than expected. 2 days ago i took my comanche for a short road trip (about 100 miles) when i got back i ran over to my farm and hit a little mud pit (wasnt beating it at all) and went down my driveway and started to head back towards my buddies house. about 2 miles down the road my jeep started increasing in rpm's from its idle whenever i would push the clutch in. it normally idles around 700 rpm. it took itself up to 3000 rpm's and would not drop at all. i got it to the local gas station and popped the hood. it was seeping oil out of the valve cover gasket. yesterday i pulled the line off the top of the valve cover and off of the other thing that line hooks into to find a white milky mixture (oil and coolant). i fired up the jeep and it idles normal for a few minutes until it warms up. then it does the same thing. increases in rpm's till it hits 3000 rpm's. im leaning towards a cracked head but i am not sure. it has about 187,000 miles on it. any help would be great guys as this is my daily driver right now

Sounds like a vacuum leak on the rpms thing. Head may not be cracked, just a head gasket failure. I don't think the two are related
