We called it "black ops" for a while after I painted it.

I don't think a v-8 is in the cards. I just finished replacing the engine in the 98 xj. We're going to have to make the old 4.0 renix run again in the 88.

Today was moving day, we pulled the 88 out of the weeds and re-located it to the shop. Of course we had to use "Black Ops" to do the move. If you've ever backed a vehicle up using a tow bar it's quiet the experience. 4-low and locked makes it a not issue, just shove that suck'a where ever you want it!

Note the all important :xjtalk: sticker on the back window, to bad that's all going away.

Day 1 in the shop: Pumped out 12 gallons of "skunked" gasoline (that was NASTY), installed new battery and fired motor to be sure we aren't working on a "dead" Xj. Removed all doors and both rear side windows, gutted interior.

I found a picture last night and played around with it. This is what Z (my son) and I have invisioned for this build:

I like that plan you guys have going for the XJ... I've been thinking about picking up another 4dr or a 2dr and doing something similar build wise to it.... and making it a trail rig only... as the rules are way too strict up in DE to make it street legal, without too much work..

Today Z and I had some time to work on the Xj. We finished pulling interior and cut the roof back to pick up style:

I also gathered up some S-10 springs this week to make our rear spring pack out of:
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/firemanray21/spring_zpsb7f14375.jpg (http://s223.photobucket.com/user/firemanray21/media/spring_zpsb7f14375.jpg.html)

Firemanray

I started on the "bastard" packs today. I used the main leaf from the Xj, added the 2 main leaves from the S-10 pack then used the stock "overload" leaf and a leaf from the "add-a-leaf" lift kit I took off of the '98. I've got no idea yet how high this will get me but I need 6". Whatever is lacking I'll make up with custom shackles.
Stock spring on left, Bastard pack on right:

Dug some more goodies out that I've been saving for just the right build. Now is the time. These were NHRA "outdated" 5 point harnesses from my B-I-L's 8 second Daytona. They'll be perfect for a beater off road vehicle.

Finally got started on the lift. Got the front left done this evening. Only took an hour to get this far. Looks like 6+ inches net lift. This should be interesting.

Well we put together the rear springs and installed them with the welded Chry 8.25" today. I used the original main leaf + the 2 long leaves off of the S-10 pack + the 2 sets of 3" "add-a-leaf" springs I had. We ended up with at least 9" of lift. The spring rate is stupid stiff, probably don't have much flex, I'll have to play with it some later.

Now I have to actually make this thing run again. I let it sit over a year and the fuel was NASTY, so we pumped it out using the in tank pump ( hot wired). After we added new fuel we can't get the fuel pump to run using the ignition (i.e. normal operation). I'm gonna start some research but if anyone has some smarts on this renix post up!!

Check that big wire harness that is loose under the hood on that thing. I bet there is a bad wire somewhere. I do remember when Matt owned it, that sometimes it would just shut off. We would shake that harness around and it would start up.
