I’ve always used pliers and long screw driver to do rear brakes. Strolling thru HF I came across this and decided to give my pliers and screw driver method a rest. At a price of 14.99 for the set it seemed like a good deal.

I guess just for shoe replacement wouldn’t be too bad. But I had a leaking wheel cylinder. That meant brake fluid everywhere. It worked for the first spring clip. By the time I got to the second spring clip it was covered in oil. Then this happened.

It started to bend when I applied pressure then the tip would just spin in the handle till it just fell out. The handle turned to play dough.

I fixed it by putting the end that fell out in a vice grip.

My suggestion. Save your money and Buy a set that can handle a little oil.

So I'm guessing the handle is not oil resistant then?
Is it the oil that turned the handle to play-dough?
I'm wondering if this wouldn't still be a sound investment, if say one were to dip the handle all the way up to the tip in that rubberized plasti-dip stuff for tool handles?

Harbor Freight tools are always an adventure...:D

Thats why these reviews are helpful...

I have had some HF tools that were as tough as any $$$ version, if not more so, and some were pure crap....well, pure crap may have been tougher than these tools.

I use their brake tool set http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/brakes/7-piece-brake-tool-set-188.html every brake job, its doing well after 20+ jobs, and their pad and caliper set when doing rear disks...

Both have stood up well.....but YMMV :rolleye0012:

In fact, I can't figure out why their 1/2" breaker bar is not already a pretzel from the abuse I have put it through....I should buy a half-dozen and just put them in each vehicle for lug nuts...

My hands and just about evreythng else was coated in brake fluid from replacing the brake cylinder. that and the hot NC sun softened up the handle.
I buy a lot of H.F stuff, this is the first time something failed that I wasn't abusing. In HF defence I didn't read the package. I very well might have stated "not oil resistant" but who has time to read such things?
