For those following our misadventures, traveling from Silverton Colorado to Moab, Utah, the Explorer suffered a separated lower thermostat housing in Cortez, Colorado.

Luckily, I had Bob's number (Bad Luck here on the forum) and shiny new AAA membership, and after a few frantic phone calls and lots of "the look" from my wife :rolleye0012:, we rolled into Moab late on the back of a rollback.

After ordering the needed parts from Moab Ford the next morning, Bob offered to get our vacation back on track with his XJ and a guided trip out to Hurrah Pass and Chicken Corners, two trails on our "list" to do with the Explorer if possible.

Hurrah Pass is technically an easy trail, Bob's XJ with a Detroit in the rear did it in 2WD, open diff vehicles may need 4Lo in just a few spots. Like everything in Moab, around every bend is a new vista...

The trail winds through amazing scenry, improved only by the addition of a sharp XJ ;)

At Hurrah Pass...this is a popular stop for the rental Jeep crowd, and as far as we made it in a rental Grand Cherokee last trip..

The trail gets a little more technical on the Chicken Corners portion, a couple of ledges would have required some rock stacking and careful line choice with the Explorer, and a good bit of it is shelf road...but Bob's XJ made it look easy..

Looks like the perfect touring trip ...

head off in a ford

.... and end up in a chauffer driven XJ, in some top driving spots .. ;) .. :D

According to Charles Well's book, Chicken Corners is. 6-8 hour trip, thanks to Bob's XJ with the long arm lift and Detriot in the back, we did it in half that time
