I just got an ARB fridge freezer, and so far so good. Except the owner's manual recommends to use a Merit socket, instead of a cigarette lighter socket. Is anyone familiar with them? I guess the Merit socket can handle more amperage for a longer time. Also they say to use 6mm wire, I think that is equivalent to AWG 10 isn't it. Thanks for any help.

I use the "merit" plugs a bit ... better plug than a cheapy cig lighter plug.

The red adapter lets you plug it into a std cig lighter socket as well.

Most, down here ... fit "anderson" plugs, for high amp use.

Be careful of that "6mm" reference and comparing awg ... coz normally, its not a mm-squared measurement ... just a general, size reference including insulation.

At a guess ... I would suggest using something closer to awg 6.

NW99XJ ought to be a little more mm / awg literate than me tho .. :D

Good idea, I didn't think about using anderson plugs. I'll order some tomorrow. I really don't like the cigarette sockets either. Thanks

Thanks Carves for recommending the Anderson connectors, I bought some and hooked them up, they are so much heavier duty than the Merit plugs. 50 amp rating is way overkill for a fridge that is supposed to draw less than an amp. But I really like them. Plus no male, female terminals to deal with.
