Four Trees Rd turned out to be a bust, so HUM WEE Jr with Project TJ Resurrection finally licensed and running headed further up the Feather River Canyon to 29 Switchback Rd. You guessed it, it has 29 Switchbacks. It is a road that heads up a 100% slope and climbs about 2500 feet. Here is a GPS plot of it.

It is steep, narrow and lots of tight turns. Had to back up for a few, and some tight squeezes and off camber sections that had lots of pucker factor. I think we will be constipated for about a week. :D

We passed this mine shaft on the way, but it was locked up or we would have stopped to explore. Just happened to have a light source for just such a purpose. Left it sitting on the hood. Good thing it had a magnet so it made the trip there. LOL

This has to be the worlds most twisted tree. I have never seen one more twisted.

We finally came to a spot where we decided to be wise. I could have made it through here with a tall lift and both axles locked, but we would have had to drag the stock TJ through it. It was the last switch back and we were within site of the top. But since it was the maiden voyage for the TJ and it had never been wheeled before, we turned around here.

Last but not least, it was time to air up for the trip home. I had convince Paul to air down in the first place. We were still on pavement at the time :D

That looks fantastic. I want to go there, have you ever been around Susanville? I have a buddy that lives there, and he wants me to come visit. But I don't know if I should take the jeep, or ride the motorcycle. If there are a lot of good trails I'll take the jeep. He doesn't know because he doesn't go off roading.

Yes, there are lots of roads near Susanville. In fact, if you put some miles on off road from there you can get into Susanville the back way from there. That road is the back way into High Lakes, which not just a trail, but a whole off road system. Also not far from there is the Upper and Lower Grapevine Jeep trails. CA has literally hundreds of off road trails in it in addition to the obvious famous ones.

That sounds good, I know California has a lot of trails but I haven't been on that many. But Northern California is a beautiful area, and I look forward to visiting again. Thank you for the information, I will check and try to find out more, before I head that way. Bob

Man I miss cali and all the fun I had wheeling out there!! So many places to go and great views.

I love the trail rides that have a few technical things but not really all the crazy rock crawling and mud crap, I just want roads that a normal car can't do and see some amazing sites!

Yup, that kind of wheeling is almost unlimited here
