'89 Alternator Swap Options?

So I was at the pick'n pull today and found a good 2 gauge set of battery cables. And a 120 amp Dodge alternator that is a good match.... for a '90+
But I have an '89...
I picked it up anyway as it was in great condition and only $20 + core...

The '89 has the center of the bracket where it bolts vs. the reverse.

Does anyone know if that's just a mounting bracket?:stars:

Check the wiring on the back and how many wires control it.

There was the main line (in the black plastic) + the 2 connectors ... and a 3rd off the post missing the nut.

Yeah I think the only differences were the mounting bracket, which you can pick up from a 91+ in the PNP... and I want to say the wiring on the back of the alt, but I can't remember for sure when they changed the wiring around on the alt., but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to change out/upgrade, and would def be well worth it to have that much better higher powered alt in your XJ!!

I could splice the 2 wires to 'of' ring ends and make 'em connect...
Just gotta find a mounting bracket then...

Did a little more research...
The stock remix alternator is the CS130
...which comes stock as a 160 Amp or 200 Amp alternator on GM 4.3 engines ('96-'01 S-10 for example were all 160 Amp)

ALSO it's an internal regulator vs. '92 and later jeeps were external.
So to fully swap to what I found would take extra work.
But I can take it back and swap it for an S-10 CS130 for a bolt on with more power

And a little more research...
The ACTUAL stock amp's is only 105 on CS130 alternators. But there's a "Iceberg Alternator" kit that bumps it upto 140 and gives it better cooling.
The CS130d alternators are '96 - '01 and are generally 105 Amp, but have a dual internal fan... and with the cooling fins built into the case are high output alternators stock. But I don't see a specific listing. New replacement on the HO versions is between 130 and 150 Amps.

The CS144 is 160 Amp to 200 Amp and "should bolt in" but would be about 1/2" bigger diameter.
I'll need to measure to see if that'd fit ~ looks a little tight though.
Also would need to verify the plugs since I've come across an adapter plug.

Also, the CS130d has a I/L pin that connects to the ECM, but I don't know if jeeps use that or not?

The CS144 has bracket mounts on the 6 & 12 o'clock... and would be a tight squeeze. It's almost 1.5" bigger diameter.

Looks like it has ZERO miles.
Auto Zone benched it and asked why I was in...
...told them I had to rec lock it 1/3 turn
Didn't get it in yet though...

& it's 105 amp stock... but can be used with the Iceberg kit for 140+ amps and better cooling
