Ok well i had a door from an old junker jeep that i bought for parts and it was messed up pretty bad. So i decided to try and door some half doors. I dont like the fact that most half doors i have seen they just cut the top half of the door off. I dont like how they look so i decided to try to leave mine on. I also had the original door from when i tiped my jeep but it is the same door lol. So i used that door to fill in the inside of the door. I then cut some pieces for the top.

Before someone says something about my little welds, I AM NOT A WELDER (I install carpet) My father in law has a lincoln arc welder and i found the thinist rod i can find and put it at 40 because any hotter it burned holes. I know they look like crap i am also going to pop rivit the inside pannel. the top is going to be getting some (carpet) pad and covered by vinyl.

It does not look bad. But I think that alot of guys cut the top cause it is easier to fill in and make it solid. Do not worry about they welds it took me FOREVER to get my welds right and I still have some really bad days.

Looks good, so far. There's still time to screw it up though. :smiley-laughing021:

I think you need two things. A cup holder and matching paint. I know you knew the second one.

If i were to do it again ( which i will on the drivers side. i would leave the outside longer and fold that over and then weld it to the inside

Too bad you don't have a wire feed. Stitching is as easy as squeezing and letting off the trigger on the stinger. You advance, squeeze, weld back to the other weld and repeat.

When welding sheet metal as thin as body work, where you have a right angle weld, tack a piece of angle iron in then tack the other piece of sheet metal to it. Then stitch weld with the stick. sometimes, you will need to tack, beat it down with a hammer then tack again etc.

Wish I could still get away with that with my 3 year old.......

Doors look good, I'll be doing the same at some point, hate the "doorless" look on an XJ......cut doors rule!

I agree. Looks like they missed something on the assembly line. 1/2 door are better but it lets too much of the A/C out.

Well i did a little today.... i made the door have a cup holder. We had an old fabric fold out chair that has cup holders and I cut them out and put them under the padded arm rest. I then cut the hole for the cup holder in the arm rest.

All i have left is to sand it down, paint it, attach the arm rest and it will be complete. Then i need to do the drivers side lol.

Not for me I did these with the owner at his garage and his welder(would have rather used my TIG! Oh well) The last set he did he used pop rivets!?!?!? not a good idea you can see them on the xj behind the doors in the last pic.
