Thanks its my buddies , he is a rough country dealer!
We got the front kinda done , well enough to get it out of the shop , so its not in the way.

Pushed out side . Looks good i like it. The right sits right and the left front sits kinda weird, low and to the front. I measured the arms , i dont know why that happened!

altonamud
05-05-2013, 08:50 PM
The right side looks real good.

Which rims should i go with, the black ones in the first pics or the last pic? What ya all think

Personally I like the looks of it with the last pic

bluedragon436
05-05-2013, 09:06 PM
I'd go with the Canyon rims myself personally!! Do you know if the ones you have are off of a TJ or a ZJ??

Canyon rims what do they look like?

Canyon rims what do they look like?

Canyon rims are the ones you have on your XJ in the last pics... That is the name Jeep or whoever gave them for the model rim you have.. They came on TJ's as well as ZJ's, the only reason I ask if you know which you have, is because the one for the TJ's are wider and from what I've been told when I was looking at picking up some for my XJ is the ones from the TJ have a better back spacing, but I do know that the TJ's are wider, I'm not positive on the back spacing part though...

Brasscatz
05-05-2013, 10:49 PM
Between the two, I'd chose the last pic. I like black wheels, but I'm not a fan of the thin spokes of the first pic. Looks great man! That's what mine's gonna look like ;)

XJ Wheeler
05-06-2013, 12:06 AM
I agree with Brasscatz, i like the black but not with those wheels. Go with the last ones. Looks awesome, by the way. Nice work.

altonamud
05-06-2013, 06:29 AM
Here is the best pic i have of the left side, look how the wheel sits forward. I may have to remove the arm and remeasure it to make sure that it is the correct length.

4.3LXJ
05-06-2013, 06:51 AM
Yes, looks like measurements are in order

altonamud
05-06-2013, 07:20 AM
My buddy's MJ beside my XJ . MJ has a 6.5" RC long arm and 2 leveling kits in the front to get the stance he wanted. RC said it would t fit but after allot of hours it worked.

Got the rear leaf (front ) mounted. Shackles being a real pain in the buttocks!!!! GRRR!!

You're going to hate me but just to be sure you know...

If you drive your Jeep around like that be sure that you don't put it into part time 4wd. The gearing ratio difference between the front and the back will be bad on the drive line.

Okay got to the end of the post, looks like your okay. Leaving this in just in case someone else doesn't know...

Wow, that will keep you busy for a day or two
Looking forward to getting her out on the trail and seeing how she handles on and off the trail
.
What to do next?
I wanna do rock sliders, Grand Cherokee ALT, AUX batt, Inverter, TAC gauge, OIL pressure gauge, water temp gauge, amber fog lights, off-road lights front and rear, winch, d rings all 4 corners.
That's my list LOL

Hey I need to get a blue print for a rear bumper, my father in law has a welding shop with TIG, MIG....a whole mess of cool equipment, so I'd like to build a rear bumper.

4.3LXJ
05-07-2013, 10:37 PM
Blue prints fo r bumpers just don't exist. The best you can do is look at what you like and start making cardboard mock ups

altonamud
05-08-2013, 09:46 PM
Sounds like a plan.
Whats everyone doing for body armor?

altonamud

Only if it's an :xjtalk: decal!!! LOL... The XJ is looking good... You should get your friend with the MJ on here too... I like the look of a decently built MJ... I hope I can find a MJ to build up one day.. will make a nice driveway having the XJ and an MJ built up next to each other... Looking forward to seeing your XJ progress!!

Got the rear adjustable shackles installed and finished with the track bar and the swaybar disconnects installed.
I got gears,Slip yoke elim and drive shaft to do.

altonamud
06-02-2013, 11:33 AM
Bumper is on too Woot woot!!!
Here is what the rear look like with the adjustable shackles on.

4.3LXJ
06-02-2013, 11:36 AM
It is definitely up there. Nice looking Jeep

altonamud
06-02-2013, 11:36 AM
I kinda hope the leaf springs sag a bit, the axle looks kinda far forward and the rear is wicked high.
I tryed flexing a bit and WOW she has some flex to her.( forgot to take a pic of that)

4.3LXJ
06-02-2013, 11:37 AM
They may settle a little.

altonamud
06-02-2013, 02:58 PM
Thanks 4.3lxj
Spit balling here , i think if i move my shackle to the most forward hole and up a hole at he leaf spring end it should come down a bit.
Has anyone else had the adjustable shackles?
What did each hole do??

4.3LXJ
06-02-2013, 03:07 PM
That is true. Also bear in mind that if you have a lot of arch i the spring, the axle will move backwards as the spring flexes. A drawback of high arch springs

altonamud
06-02-2013, 03:27 PM
Yuppers.
So how does the suspension react in the diffrent adjustment holes

4.3LXJ
06-03-2013, 12:46 AM
The more shackle angle you have, the smoother the ride

altonamud
06-03-2013, 10:18 AM
What about height wise, i am guessing that the more angle the less height

4.3LXJ
06-03-2013, 10:28 AM
That too

altonamud
06-03-2013, 10:37 PM
So should how should i tune the rear suspension?
Lots of angle on the shackle or less?????? Decisions decisions

XJ Wheeler
06-04-2013, 03:08 AM
Steve can confirm or deny this but i believe the ideal shackle angle is 45°.

4.3LXJ
06-04-2013, 08:14 AM
Yes, you don't want to go more than that. Not good for the main leaf

altonamud
06-04-2013, 07:10 PM
where u measure 45 from?

4.3LXJ
06-04-2013, 07:34 PM
From verticle

altonamud
06-08-2013, 08:57 PM
Here is a pic of my shackle angle.
2513

4.3LXJ
06-08-2013, 11:13 PM
From a hight standpoint, you could go to the other hole in the shackle. But that angle is fine as far as I am concerned. Some would go to the last hole, but that would be too much and not good for the main leaf or shackle bushing at full flex. Too much force in the wrong direction on them

altonamud
06-08-2013, 11:44 PM
Ok then all i got to do is get 2 bolts that broke off for the shock mounts in the rear tighten everything up and give it a wheel alignment!!! Progress is great, i cant wait to try it out on some trails!!!!
Oh yea i got SYE to install and gears LOL . I guess i could go for a short ride through like a ditch to streatch the suspension a little LOL

altonamud
06-22-2013, 09:05 PM
I installed the SYE today.

2653

2654

altonamud
06-23-2013, 10:02 PM
Few more.
Looks like the leaf springs will need a bit of break-in before they will flex. I got the on to flatten out (i think the arc went negative). Didn't take a pic of the leaf that way. The 35's rub a bit, I will either go to a skinny 35 or trim.

I used to mud race a 79 f150 ford, i buildt the jeep(because I had not build one).the mud racing truck was a GIANT money pit. The mud truck was a ton of fun though , I enjoyed it allot!

Plus I got a buddy with a very capable MJ that I will be wheeling with.

Kinda hope i dont go over board with the XJ .

altonamud
06-24-2013, 08:50 AM
How long before the suspension is worn in? What is everyone doing to break in (or wear in) the coils and leaf packs?

4.3LXJ
06-24-2013, 11:00 AM
Just take it wheeling. That will take care of any break in or settling

altonamud
06-24-2013, 10:54 PM
Will the springs come out at the top like i see in soo many flex pictures?

4.3LXJ
06-24-2013, 11:23 PM
Not unless the shocks are way too long. The stock lower control arms will limit the travel anyway

altonamud
06-25-2013, 06:46 AM
No stock lower control arms here.

4.3LXJ
06-25-2013, 11:23 AM
OK, can't happen then. Almost all those pics are of rigs with long arms anyway. If you have them, and the right track bar, you can undo the shocks and the front end will go for a long ways

Balanced the 35's , went for a shake down and it handles the hwy good.
I got a tiny nit of trimming to do so the front tires don't rip the rear corner or the flairs of.

altonamud

I didnt install it OTK (under the knuckle)but i got it all installed , the kit is freaking tough i had a tree hang up under the front diff jamming between the diff and my steering, it held up great! I need lockers, thinking LOKKA's front and rear.

Well heck, when is a lifted box not affected by the wind?? I looked at picking up the OTK kit from Rusty's has part of my lift was Rusty's as well as my exhaust... but never did due to the welding and such required, and me having a lack of that knowledge to be able to complete the install, and not really needing it too much at the time.. But thinking about it for further build.. Keep up the good work on the XJ!!

The thing with a locker is that the inside tire in a curve gets the power. If it is working properly it will not lock up in a curve unless the inside kicks loose. In the front, if there is not power applied to it, you won't even know it is there.

Yes. Grab your sector shaft and twist it while looking down on the steering box. If the shaft twists and pitman arm stays put, the steering box needs adjustment

Brasscatz
09-15-2014, 07:04 PM
But if you twist the sector shaft more than twice, you're just playing with it
