While I was waiting the required 45 minutes to pull vacuum on the 1999 A/C system, I thought I'd try this....

Do you have any before / after pic's?
... and does it look like it's holding up ~ a week later?

You mean more before and after pictures? No.

Yep seems to be, I mean it's much darker than the side that wasn't touched until yesterday.

Oh and this is just hot air. Nothing done to the trim other than the hot air from the gun. Still need to put some "Back to Black" or Amorall on them.

Something you guys need to know the hot air method does melt the top layer of the plastic. Slightly and this can cause a "topographic" kind of look.

My plan is to hit it with a dark green scouring pad and some ArmorAll or "Back to Black"

Even with these markings it looks 100% better than it did.

Definitely noticeable and fully in my price range... free (or close to free) + time

Yes, it's a huge difference and well worth my effort.

I mean even with the dirty lens on one of the security cameras you can see a difference between the rear bumper (I haven't done yet) and the rest of the trim.

I would suggest using just for men....
I mean It says it hides grey hairs... But I honestly find that a lil salt n pepper in a older man is rather sexy ya know.... ;)

The front and rear bumpers must be a different kind of plastic. They still look great!

I've heard more than one women complain about how men get better looking as they get older, and that isn't fair! :rolleye0012:

Why don't you just tape it off and spray it ? Don't forget your adhesion promotor ;)

Just remembered clay baring that green should take it off. I like the liquid turtle wax stuff.

I have read that the factory non-painted trim needs to be made smooth and you need flexible paint, otherwise you get the same results only it's from the paint peeling off.

That's why you spray it with adhesion promotor first, they make it specially for automotive plastics, I did that with my end caps scratched them up and then bed linered them

Might just do that, however the end bumper caps are still looking great!

Good! I just haven't bothered putting my front ones back on I have them lol they have been off since I gave the fenders another hair cut But they are the same plastic so I don't see why it wouldn't work. You just have to not do it when it's to humid other wise it will be a bit grey for what ever reason spraying them at 1 or 2 am and then leaving them to dry I'd come out after sleeping and they would be grey where condensation decided to stick but in the hot sun it was just fine and nice and black

looks like a simple fix but I work at a car wash so I hit em with some of the strong armorall we keep in the back and they shine right up!

Yep, the end caps still look good, although you can see some fading returning on them. The sides look worse than they did before.

May have to sand and paint them.

If you remove all that plastic stuff you don't need to worry about it getting grey.
if you want to take your Jeep to a car show then buy a BMW.

And what would be your recommendation for keeping the car door dings out of the metal?
