In two to three weeks we will be going to Table Mountain. Here are a few pics, and you can see why it is called Table Mountain.

It is in fact a large plateau, formed by lava pouring out from Mount Lassen about 60 miles away from here. In the last picture, the light colored areas at the base of the lava cliffs are from soil being washed away from the hydraulic mining at Cherokee. (It is fitting we will drive the Cherokee there don't you think?) We will in fact visit Cherokee and stumble around there a little probably on the way out since it is very accessible. The first place to visit will be some meadows on the top of the mountain. These meadows are ecologically unique and quite beautiful. All is visible on paved roads, however parking is a problem and the Jeep parks where it wants. After the meadows, we will go to the ghost town of Oregon City, no not the one in Oregon. I am not sure how much will be accessible, but we have found several mines marked on my GPS and the grave yard. There is a covered bridge there which is kind of cool. After that we will complete the loop and stop at Cherokee for a bit. The exact date is to be announced since it is dependent on when the flowers will be in bloom, which is dependent somewhat on the weather. But spring is close here, only a few weeks away.

Sounds fun, when do we leave? :D We expect lots of pics, and one of the jeep on the covered bridge.

I used to live at Tahoe, the other end though. My memories of Heavenly are not so heavenly. Too many rocks

I would want to make the trip if I can get a few things in order with my xj.

Where you at Ryan? This isn't a bad :ass: trip, more just a fun trip. So the Jeep doesn't have to be in top notch shape. The bad :ass: trips come in the summer.

It needs to smog. However I do have day passes. And I need to trim the finders a little. I don't have a sawzall or angle grinder at the moment

That is close enough. I live in Durham. What does the Jeep need to pass smog. I have a favorite smog shop that isn't too picky about air cleaners and stuff if you get to know them.

It's throwing a 21 code...so O2 senor hopefully. Oil on my air filter suggest it also needs new CCV elbows. And an oil change surely wouldn't hurt.

If I can get my fenders trimmed up before, I will be going regardless of the other stuff. She runs strong, just rubs the fenders a little up front.

Don't worry too much about that. We probably won't be flexing much at all. Most if not all the trip will be on pavement. The reason we take the Jeep is because of parking issues. That way, we park where we want.

Fordyce Creek area. We will camp there. We might hit the Rubicon, we will see on that one. Wayne, Cantab27 and Big Jim 350 are planning to come out here for the trip the first weekend in August. Also have one from another forum from Loomis and possibly a chick from Canada, who does her own wrenching. My son and granddaughter will also be there.

I just wanted to remind everyone that our Table Mountain trip is this Saturday. We will meet at my place at 10 AM. Pack a lunch. We will eat after we work up an appetite hiking a little at the Table Mountain botanical site. We plan on hiking around two Ghost towns, Cherokee and Oregon City afterwards. PM me for directions
