Wow bro. So are the wild fires over with in yer area now?

nahhh ... not yet ... been a bit of light rain overnight, which has helped ease things a bit in this district.

If you zoom in on the map in the link below .... My pics were taken on the fringe of the black patch - in the middle of the State, above Dubbo.

Will wait till things have settled and head back over in a week or so ... and take some pics from a hilltop ...

All fixed. We had our fires here three years ago. Had some acquaintances loose their houses. We felt fairly safe here because we had a freeway between us and it and the wind was blowing north and south while the fire was to the east. But if it jumped the freeway, as it could have easily we would have been out of here

Yep, good now. Thanks.

That's a little to close for comfort. Had a close call (not as close as that) a few years ago back when i was in Colorado. It was the Hayman fire, to my knowledge the biggest in Colorados history.

Keep an eye on it, and stay safe mate.

Ya we were just about that close before we were evacuated , They say it was a 1k yards from my front door. We still have the evac boxes packed and it been 3yrs as Steve said. This yrs fires only came about 1.5 miles as the crow flies so we felt ok about it. Be carefull and if you think its time to leave, LEAVE! to many waited and well it aint good !! Stay safe !!

The hilltops sorta remind me of Brasscats' chin .. :p .. :D

Been a bunch of rain - so now the panic is on about fire retardant, asbestos fibres and other general pollutants in creek lines ..

If ya got a lot of hills around be careful. Wildfire then a downpour can equate to a mudslide issue.

:P:P:P Not sure if I'm flattered or frightened that my chin whiskers popped into your mind during a nice, peaceful Sunday drive in the countryside.... No worries though - Shaved the chin the last 2 weeks for the first time in 10 years :ass:

Thank god for kiwi firefighters ..

:D:D

Every little helped.

Twas a big one - 100,000 acres ... and despite 50 or so houses/buildings lost ... it was just a scrubfire.

The smaller fires nearer civilization, like down in Tassie or Victoria ... are more of a worry, in reality.

and Yep .... we have two weather seasons .... drought and flood .. :D

Cheers Cobber ... but there aint much risk of that round here. Hill vegetation is generally trying to grow in a thin layer of sand, dust, and cockatoo and kangaroo shyte, on top of sandstone ... coz all the proper dirt washed down off the rock - a good while back .. :D

Plenty of "mild", surface erosion issues tho .. ;)

Some Wiki-Waffle ...
The base of the region was formed 180 million years ago. At that time a lake was formed that allowed sediment to slowly compress into sandstone.[1] The Warrumbungles is the remnants of a large heavily-eroded shield volcano that was active from 13 to 17 million years ago.[2] A huge shield-shaped volcano formed as volcanic explosions occurred over millions of years.[1] The remaining complex rocky formations are what is left after millions of years of erosion. The volcano is severely dissected and originally reached a height of about 1,000 m (3000ft)

Tis fairly scrappy country from about Gilgandra through to Narrabri ... any half decent soil is down on the plains.

... Mudslides round here normally involve rain,

...and this ...... :D
