Well, I haven't been a member here long, but I really wanted to do something with this XJ. For those who haven't read my intro thread, I have a 1999 Cherokee SE 4.0L, 5 speed, 4x4. Base model...power nothing. It is currently my daily driver but will be coming off the road at the end of the month and being transformed into something I can take out and play on some trails or in the mud.

Here's how she sat after bodywork and half paint:

Now this was a NY vehicle with 85070 miles on the odometer when I got it. It sat for about 3 years with all the windows left down about an inch. Basically, everywhere you see black, there was rust. New rocker panels, rear quarters, and floor pans went in along with power, heated leather, overhead console with computer thingy, cruise, leather steering wheel, upgraded instrument cluster with one that had all the gauges instead of idiot lights, and I fixed the A/C which just had a bad compressor.

Now, I happened to stumble across this at the junkyard:

This thing was hit HARD on the P/S front, but it appears to be only frame damage. The engine, trans, and transfer case have already been pulled making it easier to see what's going on.

I can't see any damage to the control arms, but I know that P/S front wheel is pushed back a tad. I also can't find any identifying markings on the kit to know who it is from. I do know it has swaybar disconnects and that makes me happy.

I measured the distance from the center of the rear axle to the fender flare and got about 22" which is about 5" over stock. It appears to be a bastard pack lift for the rear as the part that holds the leaves together doesn't appear original.

Here's a pic in the rear. Mind you this is sporting worn 31x10.5x15's:

The 31's look kind of tiny in those fenders. The driveshafts are missing as is the front yoke off the front axle. I have no idea where they are. I also have no idea what gears are in it. I can pick up the whole carcass for $250 and return what I don't use from it. Any thoughts?

There should be a tag on the front axle diff cover with some numbers on it. There will be some numbers like 41 10 which would be the tooth count for 4.10s. Also as a bonus there is a rock slider on there and it looks kinda like Detours. If so, 250 is a steal and all the suspension stuff would be a freebie. Either way it is a good deal

You know, Steve, I never even noticed the rock sliders...they just looked like rusty pieces of metal to me. LOL

Might be some other goodies on there too. Better give it another look see. Seems like someone has put some money into it. Might even find a locker in there someplace

I certainly will. For the price, I figure I really can't lose.

Well, I may not be going through with this build at all. The XJ may be up for sale soon. I need money more than I need another toy. :( If anyone is interested, feel free to message me.

What part of PA are you from? I might be interested in checking this yard out if it isn't too far.

Thanks...I wish it wasn't so, but my lack of job has really put a damper on my finances.

I'm located in NE PA...think the NY border.

Sent you a PM since it sounds like you're fairly local. Maybe we can trade some junkyard intel.

Replied because I'm good like that. :)
