i've just noticed when i rev my jeep up (neutral) and let go of peddle its followed with some light sputtering from the tail pipe... kinda like little pops but not very loud either.... it drives fine and might be slightly sluggish on hard take off but thats all ive noticed so far... any ideas or thoughts will be greatly appreciated..
changed recently plugs but still no diff. have not changed wires, cap, rotor in a while... would any of this create the light sputters??? engine has 60,000miles on it.
oh and on regular idle its pretty smooth.. cold or hot weather doesnt make a diff also..

Listen to some exhaust videos on YouTube, and see if you hear the same sputter.

im not sure for a auto trans... made mine run rough at times and sputter after reving in neutral. most likely its not too much to worry about if its not throwing codes

ok... well its never noticeable unless i rev my engine which i rarely do for no reason anyways, just thought id make sure it wasnt a symptom to something going on.. thanks!!

pop pop out the tail pipe in park and neutral.. im not sure if it occurs in drive because i cannot hear the tail on the road.. any suggestions on what i can check out?? its slightly sluggish on take off but nothing else observed..

What is the code?

no codes, or anything out of the ordinary just the vroom, vroom, pop, pop...
if i hold the peddle down it doesnt pop but if i give it gas and as soon as i let off the peddle thats when the pop pops begin. it idles slightly low and is slightly sluggish on accelerating hard.. other than revving in park or nuetral i dont hear any sputters. no hicups when driving either.. smooth shifts.
might be nothing but i like to TRY to stay one step ahead my problems..

Wait, didn't you say you are getting a check engine light?

no sir... no check engine light at all... just a thought.. would a small hair line crack in the header where the pipes all meet up make it sputter??

That's called back pressure. It is normal and nothing to worry about.

i was just making sure it wasnt somethin leading to somethin else..
my previous cherokee did not do that although.....

Some do it, some don't. Exhaust system has a lot to do with it.
