Hey all. I am seriously thinking of upgrading my stock exhaust for an aftermarket one. I dont want it to sound like a import or any of that crap. But instead, like a Muscle car. A deep rumble that turns heads. But, I dont have the loot to spend on an expensive one like FlowMaster. So, how would a CherryBomb be? or any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Yes, I have. I love the sound of your Jeep, great dibbs on that. But, I dont have that much money to set aside on it right now. So, any cheaper alternatives?

Sorry I forgot how much it was. I didn't remember it being $80.

I had dual glass packs on my 327 in my Nova years ago. Sounded good but that was a V8. To get a deep rumble I think you need more internal area. The glass pack is going to be more of a higher pitch.

Glass packs are temping because of the price.

True, I can get a glasspack at AutoZone here for $20. How about used? Or is that too big of a strech?

I believe that the Dynomax systems are still on special.
75 dollar rebate.
A Renix era Jeep (like yours) comes to 25 buckes after the rebate.
This is everything after the cat, although the tip is hokey-I cut mine off, leaving it looking like the stock exhaust (but bigger-2 1/2 inch).
Jegs and Summit both have these.

I used the Dynomax for a while, and I liked it alot.

As for Cherrybombs, I have had them on my trail rig for a while and hate them. They sound like junk after a few thousand miles - I wouldn't be able to deal with it on a daily basis.

Those are the only exhaust experiences I have ......

So, should I go with no cat then? Or, does it really matter? And, where would you suggest putting the new muffler? Infront or behind the rear wheels?

Behind, in between the tank and shackle like it is stock. You could cut it a little shorter so it stops above your leaf spring to keep it from getting hit on things.

Thanks for all of the help. One more question though, what size inlet do I need? "2 1/2?

If you hook up to the outlet on the cat, 2 1/4.
The inlet is 2 1/2. My cat had already been gutted, I just removed it and hooked up to the remnant in front of the flange (crawl under the rig, you'll se what I mean) and ran 2 1/2 all the way back.
The Dynomax sytem (for Renix's anyway) has a reducer to adapt the 2 1/2 of the system down to the 2 1/4 on the cat outlet.
Hope this all makes sense.

My Magnaflow round muffler sounds great. No drone and it sounds like a powerful inline 6 haha. I cut my tailpipe off above my axle and it sounds even better now.

I have the Jegs Dynomax special on my ZJ 4.0 and i like it. I went all out on my XJ though. 2.5" custom bent header back high flow magnaflow cat an a gibson muffler. I used the oval tip used on the chevelle. It's a stainless restoration tip. Was about $40 but looks great. Tucked up real close to the bumper out of the way. I LOVE the way it sounds.

Those Turbo mufflers are nothing but a glass pack. They will get you in real good with the civic owners in your neighborhood. IMO from what i have used and heard, Gibson, Dynomax, or Flowmaster 50 series. Removing your cat will make any of them louder. That goes for any exhaust system.

Well on my last offroad trip I smashed my muffler and bent the tailpipe. So today I had the local exhaust shop install a new muffler, pipe and exhaust tip. Sounds awesome.
Used a Dynomax race Bullet muffler

And a Jones Exhaust Black Vein Exhaust Tips

It sounds pretty dam good. Not much loader then my Magnaflow Turbo and not as load a s some of the Flowmaster 40's I have heard.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am going up to the local muffler shop this week and see what they say about it and what they have in stock.

I'll keep you posted.
