Does anyone really know what the power-comfort switch on my dash does?
I know it is related to my auto tranny - but I am wondering what it 'really does'.

As far as I can tell it just moves the shift points up higher into the RPM band. IT also down-shifts alot sooner.

In comfort mode the trans shifts at lower RPMs and the shift is more soft.
In power mode it shifts at higher RPMs and the shift is more firm and it's not supposed to slip as much.
The later HO's used the Power settings as their programmed in shift points and did away with the switch. That's what I read anyway.

I have one in every AW-4 Renix XJ I have had... The last two were a fleet model, and now my Pioneer. Gotta love AMC mentality...

I use the power when heavily loaded and/or on a trail. The comfort is for everyday driving.

I typically use it when climbing hills - uphill etc - on the flats leave it off
