Hi All,
So I figured I'd get my first real post out of the way by posting up a couple quick pics of my new-to-me '98 Limited. It's a bone-stock 4.0 with a bit over 150k on the ODO. Plans are to put a 2" lift on it (will be my DD) and put some fresh rubber underneath, but I'm in no hurry. Let me know what you think!

Thanks

Looks great. White is the best color to go with ;)

Thanks guys. Wasn't sure about the color at first, but once I saw it in person my mind was changed. I think Jeeps are the only vehicles that can pull of white, but anyway...Hoping to get it dirty SOON, but here in MD, there are nearly no trails/beaches you can ride (protecting endangered species)..

Too bad about the trails. But in an XJ you can be comfortable traveling to and from trails at a distance.

Just my opinion, but what would really set off that white jeep, with the new tires, is some black wheels

I like the wheels....

Thanks for the input bigjim.. Im completely torn between the snowflakes and black wheels. If I decide to keep the snowflakes, I will need to refinish/ paint 'em because the clear-coat is coming off and it's pretty noticeable. Are those steel wheels on your XJ?

and JJ, I agree. Just something classic about the look of the stock wheels. Are those painted or just good and muddy in the pic? lol

They are just filthy, they are normally very shiny, even the clear coat is generally in good order....

Thought so. I asked because I've seen some that were meant to match the body color of a yellow/ gold-ish body. Your clear-coat isn't peeling? Are they original? Sorry for drilling down, just curious as to whether I should buy new ones, refinish/ paint the current ones, etc.

Thanks
Colin

Beautiful Jeep man! And those are the wheels I have too and I love them. I tried painting my spare black with plasti-dip to see what it looks like and I don't know how much I like it. Luckily it's a temp paint.

Another thing you can do to offset some white is paint the headlight bezels and grill black. But I think it looks great either way.

Here's a pic of my test painted spare in front of my other tire

I'm not completely sold on the black wheels yet, but that wheel in the pic looks pretty dang nice to me. I'm going to take the wheels off this weekend regardless to put new tires on, so I may decide to paint one of the wheels (maybe the full spare) black to see how I like it in person. I am worried that the peeling on the wheels I have on there may need to be dealt with first, maybe sanded down, before painting. Did you need to do that with your spare?

Regardless, I'll post a close-up tomorrow to show what I mean if the "peeling" isn't making much sense haha

Excellent Jeep, excellent choice.

I too have a 98 Classic that is white. I have a 3.5" Rubicon Express kit on it along with 3/4" spacers up front and 1/2" shackle extensions out back. For wheels I chose the optional in 98/99 TJ Grizzly wheels. Now my tires are 31 x 10.5 x 15 Rocky Mountain AT from Falken.

See my album for pics of the Jeep.

Thanks you guys.. XJ Rat, I'm going to check out your pics once I finish this post. It was the cleanest XJ I've seen around my area (for sale at least), and I think one of the reasons for its great condition is the white paint. The white doesn't attract as much sun as a darker color would, so the paint last longer- if that makes sense??
Anyway, this is a pic of the front bumper up close. I dont think I'll be adding any steel bumpers, front or back, for a while. But I am considering flat fender flares when I get new tires. Opinions or pics of what would look best (as in fender flares- keep these or get ____) with 31" wheels after a 2" lift would be very helpful.

Nah, I just wanted to see what it looked like so I sprayed it with plasti-dip which is really easy to peel off. I've left it on there, but at some point I'll peel it off.

I love the maroon XJ color.. I was about to pull the trigger on one, but the driveshaft was SHOT. Anyway, what wheels are you looking at (color and/or size)??

Those Cragars are the real deal, and if I do end up getting black rims, it'll be those. As for the fender flares, I' pretty set on these flat ones.. Just don't think the other style would look clean with my white body style, but to each his own!
Oh and thanks again for all this input guys

Napier is coming out with flat ones. Being tested currently for resistance to abuse

Oh sweeet, I'll hold out then and stay tuned. Would much rather support a smaller business than a large one. Thanks for the word 4.3LXJ.
It's good they're testing 'em out like that. I hear the Bushwackers tend to fall off when bumped on limbs, trees, etc. Good Stuff..

Yes, then can. My son has some Smitty Built flares. He replaces front ones regularly due to ice damage. The tough fiberglass sounds better to me

Oh wow, that's a pain. I checked out that website you posted about the fenders, and they had flat style fender flares in there that looked really good. Are these the flares you were saying they're testing or are there new ones coming out?
Thanks

The company spokesman said in a post here that they were testing them about two weeks ago. I haven't checked on availability yet. But they do look good

I like the fender flares to be "kicked out" like the extra coverage for the tires. but also giv3s it an extra zing to the individual riders. good jeepin and muddy nites
