Hi,

It has been a long time since I last touch anything in my Jeep.
It is summer here, getting out of the A/C wasn't really an option...
For the last few months, the headliner was almost on my kids heads, but lately, it was on mine too (driver side) so I decided it is time to fix it...

How to remove it?
1. Remove the sun visors (3 Philips screws) and their hands (one screw for each)
2. Remove the central lamp, 2 screws and then slide it forwards till it comes out. do not remove it completely, just slide it above the roof.
3. Remove the plastic panels:
The ones above the driver/passenger sides have plastic/metal clips which hold them to their place, be careful while you are pulling them. I broke 2, Epoxy glue put them back in place later.
You will have to remove the passenger handle too (torex screwdriver)
4. Remove the passengers handles above the rear doors (torex screwdriver, again) and then remove the panels.
5. remove the speakers, first remove their plastic covers and then remove them (2 torex screws under the plastic cover)
6. remove the lamp by pulling it gently and slide it above the roof.
7. Remove the rear door panel and the side panels of it.
8. remove the safety belt bolts (rear ones)

Slide the headliner through the rear door.

Remove the old sponge of the fiberglass headliner.

Spray the glue over the clean headliner

Use the help of another person to put the new fabric in place, be careful not to have any wrinkles.

Put everything back in place...

What did you use to remove the old sponge?? And where did you get your fabric from?? Does the new fabric have the sponge material with it, or you just have straight fabric on the headliner now?? I'm going to have to doing this to my headliner, probably shortly after getting back stateside, as I hate the spots my liner is starting to sag now, and it is only a few spots up front, nothing to the point of where yours was... not yet anyways!!

Hi,

The fabric has the sponge as a part of it.
I bought it in Hulon :D I'm pretty sure it is at least 10 hours of flight from your location :)
(It's a city in Israel, not an internet store)

I used a hard brush to remove the old sponge.

Remember to use a glue that can resist heat.

You will need ~2.4m x 1.3m
I saw fabric on eBay... look for headliner fabric

Good luck,
Saar.

Thanks, I'm actually not that far away from Isreal right now... LOL.. But I don't think the AF would take kindly to me borrowing one of their planes to make a quick trip for headliner fabric.. LOL.. Thanks, I'll look into purchasing some supplies either shortly before I head home or after I get there..

I found some nice desert digital camo ripstop fabric for my headliner replacement.

Great write up.

You have to pull it out carefully, start from its front.

Once you get the cover off, use some needle nose pliers to carefully pull the ring clip off the pin. If you do it carefully enough, you can reuse the ring clip. Should come right off.

Is that the little washer things with the fingers cut into them?

If so most hardware stores carry them, and I have had luck using the handle end of a small ratchet as a hammer to bend them back into working condition.

Yep, that would be the one. I don't know the official name for it, but ring clip sounded good :P
