Hey, we've had this cherokee in the family since 95 and it's been through a lot... snapped engine mounts, 203k miles and 15 summer trips up to maine/canada, being backed into by a suburban, and more.

I took it over from my parents last summer and have been doing A LOT of work cutting out and patching rust spots (practically replaced the floor), repairing stuff, and painting etc.

My question today is about ride height and bump stops.
The rear bump stops are not there any more (except for little quarter inch nubs of flaking rust bolted to the frame). I will be driving a decent load of stuff from Boston to Florida as I am headed back to school down there.

Without the stops for reference I'm a bit unsure how heavy to pack.

Does anyone know what a safe distance between the axle and the frame is?

I would think 4-6" would allow for travel when hitting smalls bumps on your trip.

Dan here saying...
