Yesterday was a nice cool, for NorCal June day. So I said, "Honey let't go for a pic nic". She said "Where" I thought about it and said "Antellope Creek" (heh heh heh) She hasn't been there before. :rolleye0012:

So she packed a lunch and off we went. We didn't start till noon, so I guess it was really supper. I said we would go in the easy way and go around the back side up Hwy 36. On the way up the grade, the Jeep started getting hot :bang::bang::bang: This is not supposed to happen. I had just replaced my Taurus fan after the old freebie quit from being properly abused. So I turned on the smaller fan (after putting in some of my cool new switches and relays) and continued on not even slowing down. Never got over 215° even on a long grade, so all was well. Stopped to air down and found a ground problem. I didn't throw in my electrical stuff, so had to live with it. Meanwhile the wife is saying "You should pack enough tools to be able to fix anything" "Yes dear."

I had this great plan. We would go down the end of Ishi Road and twist up the suspension a little, have a nice meal at Antelope Creek and hit Upper Grapevine Jeep trail and then head back up Ishi and head for home. Well, I kept running into locked gates, that were supposed to be open this time of year. The Forest Service had closed off a whole road system with several trails in it. I was getting steamed. I was going to call my Congressman, who by the way will get involved in road closures, and complain loudly.

So back up Hogsback we went until we came to this little frog pond.

(Notice the burgers on the hood getting warm.) There were some good sized frogs here, which the wife really enjoyed. She really likes frogs, reminds her of her childhood and her fathers log pond. We stopped at a Kiosk that has a map of the trail system and found a notice of closure. These people were building a bridge where I wanted to pic nic. The nerve of them. Here is the crossing as it used to be.

It was deemed a fish migration barrier. So OK, I forgive them. I would appreciate a phone call next time fellas. There is an active Salmon run on this creek, so I am glad they were fixing that. So after consulting their map, we headed for De Haven Gulch Jeep Trail. Takes me a few minutes to memorize that so we know where we were going. It was just a two track, nothing really challenging. We never did find the Gulch. This is the closest thing to it.

Spotted some pebbles and asked the wife if we wanted some poser shots. She said "Sure". I don't think she knew what I had in mind. We pulled up to the perfect poser rock and she got out and said "DON'T BREAK YOUR TOY!" So I slipped it onto the 10.38 crawl ratio and idled up the rock. She said "What is that noise?" "No problem, just the brakes". They won't hold against the torque, even up hill so they chatter a little.

Then she said. "Get a shot from over here."

"This one is going on your next tie. That rock will be easy to put in." Here is the first on she made me for Fathers Day.

Looking forward to this one. We went to the end of it, turned around and came back and tried another "Jeep Trail", but it turned out to be a decent road around the perimeter of a state prison. So we headed for home. Stopped off at the gym and soaked in the hot tub and came home relaxed.

They will all be blue Jeeps on any color tie you want, as long as it is black
