I'm considering picking up a with a blown motor. 94 4dr jeep w/o 4wd. I'll most likely be using it for a towing vehicle or a car audio comp vehicle.

Either way I want to put a 5.3 ls series engine in it. They can be had relatively cheap and I know a good bit about them.

I have access to big a shop(my dad owns it) We have welders, a few lifts, plenty of tools and knowledge.

I found this site that offers a lot to help with this conversion.
http://www.novak-adapt.com/index.htm

Looking to see if anyone has a experience with this. I'm going to come up with a rough estimate on price to do this, over the next few days.

If the cost becomes too expensive, I'll look into building another 4.0 for it.

Any one done 2wd to 4wd swaps on these?

Yea it's a tough choice. I really like these old square bodies. Easy body work.

So much more power options with the V8 swap and probably economy as well. Which will come in handy on towing my soon to be audio comp car to shows 8hrs away lol. These trucks are so damn light too.

Advance Adapters has info and adaptors too. The hard part of these swaps in not bolting their adaptors in. There is throttle linkage to adapt, wiring and computer to mount, mine is in under the dash, rerwiring the brake switch, new tranny mount, exhaust, which won't be as much of a problem since you are doing 2WD, plumbing in analogue sensors for the dash and the cooling system. Also plan on venting the hood or it will run really hot.

Yea I figured the wiring for the comps would be pita, but it needs to be done lol. Plus novak has those kits lol. I didn't know about the hood venting, but it makes sense. If I follow through with I'll do it right, since I have access to all the tools needed. I really can't justify the price on stroker kits though.

I would love to have the V8 power in my XJ... So you are planning on doing this swap to a XJ?? I have been looking at the pricing for rebuilding/stroking the 4.0... and think if I get to that point one day, I'll just stick with doing a budget stroker with a few add ons, over the V6 or V8 option, due to not having any fab skills, or local shops that could help me with any of the parts I can not take care of.. I look forward to seeing what decision you make and how you come out in the end...

This is old but not forgotten :)

I'm leaning towards scratching the V8 swap for now. Having researched it a good bit. I've found a Jeep with some messed up body and suspension parts. Good engine though. I think I'll go ahead and do the swap (93 in to a 94) I will be making this my bass machine I thinking now. Not that it will interest those of you on this forum lol. But if the 4.0 seems ok, I'll move forward with a mild stroker kit, somewhere in the $2500 range. I'll throw on a header, maybe a snorkel kit and a bag kit for all the extra weight.

Most likely it'll be getting walled with 3 18s with 15-16k watts. Probably a dual alt setup, one for 12v and one for 16v.

Give you guys an idea of what I do
