Was going to head off to Keepit Dam to see if it was leaking after the little ground tremble the other night ..... but it seemed pointless and I couldn't be bothered ... :D

So I went Yowie hunting in the Pillaga instead ........... another pointless exercise ... :smiley-laughing021:

First stop ... an old homestead - resumed by National Parks. House was bulldozed over as usual .... but there was a bit of stuff to still have a poke around ...

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/carves-oz/Trip%20Pics/Pillaga%20-%20Nth/100612-07b.jpg..

Shoulda changed the oil while I was there ... ;)

Have seen places like this in american movies .... tourists cars hidden in lonely spots and all the tourists hanging on meat hooks in the shed ....

Ooops ... Time to go ... I can hear banjoes ... :p .. :D

Poor little jeep ...
All lonely and abandoned in the aussie scrub ....... for all of 5min

... If you listen carefully you can hear it whimpering ... :D

This was nearly a whoopsy ... whole place is a quagmire waiting to happen after a bit of rain ... The more you play in it - the deeper you go ... some patches are a bit like quicksand - no bottom to it.

Noooo .... big knobby tyres and difflocks dont help ... they just help you sink out of sight quicker ... :smiley-scared002:

Move over Skippy ... coming thru ... Silly little sod - shoulda bolted into the scrub with his mum.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n629/carves-oz/Trip%20Pics/Pillaga%20-%20Nth/100612-60b.jpg

.... and at one stage - I thought I'd staked a sidewall ... or popped a vacuum hose ...

.... but it was just the XJ giving a sigh of relief .. :D

Thanks fellas .... :o

Most of the Pillaga is pretty ordinary sort of driving country really ... and theres better and more interesting ... in other parts of Aust ... depending on your landscape preferences.

Them prarie chickens (bush chook) must be freak'n huge judging by the claw print!!

Prairie Chickens ... ohhh - you Texans ... always making out you have bigger and better .... :p

:D:D

Emus are 'bout 5' on average for an adult ... Like an Ostrich. 6' is not uncommon ... and they get cranky during the laying season.

I did try to chase a couple up with the XJ for a piccy ... but there were too many ruts and fallen logs on the road ... to do the 25-30 mph they were doing.

If you know any U.S. military that ever visited the aust armies, jungle training school at Tully, up in the tropics ...

.... ask 'em about the Emu's, nasty, smaller cousin, called a Cassowary .... :D

06-12-2012, 01:45 PM
Cassowary can gut a man from top to bottom with one kick and Emu's are just generally nasty attituded critters. Chickens here are called yard birds. Love Aussie Land alot can't wait to get back. Seeing those pics just made it worse. Thanks !!!

Nice run. I like seeing different parts of the world. The Aborigines use that small cave? Here, our local Indians used caves like that. There are a couple here locally that I would like to sift through for artifacts.

Most likely it would have been used as shelter from time to time .... its fairly typical of other spots that have some "rock art" and sometimes flints, in them.

Not much good in lousy weather tho ... as they arent deep - and the openings all tend to face southish ... into the worst, winds/rain.

Wellll just in case your wondering ??? ... They aren't military ...

I dont think the Aust Army has enough Abrams tanks to make that many tracks anyway ... :smiley-laughing021:

Tracks are from the little bulldozer used for road clearing ... maybe you call them - crawler tractors ??

Most people call them "cats" here. It is kind of like saying "coke" for soda pop. Caterpillar is the major brand, although there are a few Fiats around

... but I guess you're referring to a handmedown, name association, to "muleskinners" ... which loosely translates to "bullockies" down here.
