Tomorrow's the first mud race of the year and the first for her with the new stroker, I'm hoping it stay's together... I built this jeep last spring and she had a good year with it. It started a 89 renix and ended up a hybrid, with 96 OBD2 wiring and 98 front clip.

Well the end of the world didn't come but my luck didn't change either. First pass through the speed pit she blew a freeze plug out of the block and it went in a big cloud of smoke. Everyone (even me) thought she blew it...Good thing was she lifted before she made a full pass and still ran a 5.01. So I layed over the motor and beat a freeze plug in, in the rain so she could make her deep pit run and accidently broke a vacuum line into intake..... Needless to say it pulled about half way and started couqhing into intake... Oh well were gonna run coolville sat and hopefully we'll have a better day.

Missy had alot better day, Saturday. We had no gremlins and with all the rain Deep Mud....It was in southern OH so she raced tire size class (34 and under) and she took second to a SBC toyota in the speed pit and went 84 ft in the deep pit and won that class.

She's the perfect driver because she has no fear of blowing the motor,,, She know's or cares about nothing but thrashing the jeep for everything it's got. Guy's are prone to worry or lift alittle at noises and fluctuating gauges... Not women they'll float the valves out of the motor and still kick the floorboard for more speed,,,,LOL

A little update, she didn't do very well in the sand drags. The bugs came back and it ran like crap, the good news is I took the MJ and won the sand drags and the speed pit in the 4/6 class..:D It didn't make her feel any better with me bringing home all the money but she's over it now. (I'm not on the couch anymore) We hooked it up to a computer yesterday and her ambient temp sensor was bad, TPS was all over the place and a intake leak on the bottom of the intake (installer error) It's back up and running and were heading for "The Challenge In The Hills" Side by side sand drags on Memorial Day weekend. Here's a pic of her coming through the lights last Saturday and the video is us racing against each other last year at Challenge in the Hills.

That is the way I always was. Drove it there, sometimes pulling a trailer full of tires sometimes for hundreds of miles, race in at least one event and then drive it back. Keeps you honest that way.

I dont an;y more. I finally broke that Jeep in half. But I did obstacle course and barrels.

The only pic of it on digital.

Built V6, upgraded tranny, twin stick D20 case with extra long sticks, custom indestructible suspension and front and rear D44s with Powerlocks. I usually took home a trophy with it.

Well we ran the sand drags again last weekend and once again my MJ won, Seems the little truck is fast for some reason and the one (red xj) I've got a ton of money in isn't..:bang: I won with a 4.2 and she ran a 4.6, 4 tenths of a second is a eyeblink but hard to make up when maxed out already. Were heading out to WV day tomorrow, 2 day's of mud racing with 3 pits. I'm pulling the red jeep down and she's pulling the pop-up with the teal jeep, then next week is "Hill In a Hole" race in Charleston.

Were finally home, long weekend of racing and camping...:D Missy won first in the speed pit with a 4.16 and also won the 33 and under deep pit... Finally getting all the bugs out, man that little jeep was fast this weekend. I got some video, I'll get it up soon.

jonb8
06-25-2012, 09:39 AM
She ran this weekend but lost to me....OOOPS, I ran a 4.36 and she ran a 4.38. Then I went on to run the Hill in the Hole race and had a ball. First time I've ever jumped anything and I gotta say it was the most fun I've ever had in a jeep. Got lots of air and it landed softer than I ever could have imagined. Were off next weekend to the sand drags and speed pit in Weston.

jonb8
07-07-2012, 07:43 AM
Weston was cancelled because of the storm but we did run the 4th at the southern OH shootout. Missy took 3rd in the 33 and under sand drags and first in the 33 and under deep pit. The guy that won the sand drags was way out of are league, but the guy that took second was a 383 shortbed truck that ran a 5.03 and missy ran a 5.1 flat. The 63mm throttle body and 24lbs injectors I installed a couple of day's ago really woke the little stroker up. Were getting ready to pull out and race at Coolville OH, then were gonna have a coule weeks off. Man I need it...LOL

The season finished up good and she ended up with 14 wins and numerous 2nds and 3rds. This jeep is up for sale locally and getting ready to throw a bunch of money at the MJ for next year.

Wow John, why argue with success?

jonb8
11-15-2012, 08:55 AM
You know how racing is, she won't win next year with the same jeep. Everyone alway's gains a few tenths during the winter. Last race of the year I ran a 3.72 and she ran a 4.1 flat. That's alot in racing, and the truck is 400lbs lighter and I can't get that much out of the 2dr. The longer wheelbase of the truck will also help her keep it straight with the horsepower were adding this winter..

jonb8
11-15-2012, 08:57 AM
The longer rear springs and shackles seems to flatten out and hook up alot better than the shorter xj springs.

Wow I haven't been here in years...LOL We sold the red 2 dr and I built her the MJ, I built a 4.6 stroker with a 2.02 head from 505 performance, a bullet 538 solid lift cam and roller rockers, a throttle body off of a 4.7L, 24lbs mustang inj and a full 3in exhaust from the header back. She's won alot of races with this truck and up to this year she hadn't been beat in the street stock class. Here's a video of her winning the Wood Co fair and loading 30 SBC and a couple Big block super street trucks...

You at Dover? I lived in Whispering Pines in Magnolia and worked at Sunroc for years... I don't miss Dover though.... Strokers are easy, you can rebuild a 4.0 with a cresent wrench and a butter knife.. Take your time and double check everything, and the motor will be fine. Don't let those guy's on Stroker forum scare ya...

Yeah I am @ Dover... and I won't miss this place either... that is if I ever get out of here in the first place.. Do you happen to know of any good machine shops to hit up for the machining of the 4.0?? Only places I've found want an arm and a leg and my first born, just for the machining... and I still have to do all the assembly myself.. so after pricing parts and machining I might be going with a pre built stroker long block.... I think it'd be more fun to know that I had a part in building it... but not worth shady work or paying far more just for that feeling...

jonb8
08-30-2016, 10:11 AM
Yea the machine work is expensive even here, pre built strokers are nice and you get a great deal. But I've raced a 4.5 and a 4.6 and if I had to do again (and I wasn't racing) I'd build a stock replacement, money is much better spent in gears then in a stroker... 200 horsepower from a good motor with exhaust and intake work is more then enough for xj with the right gear... The stroker crank is just HEAVY...

I agree with this statement 100%. I know several people with strokers and the gain for just recreational use was not worth the money they spent building it. Now if your going to race it or beat the hell out of crawling that's a different story.

I have the gears sitting down in my garage, and am currently waiting for a few quotes back to figure out where I'll have the gears installed at. I only started looking at the strokers because the stock replacements weren't too much cheaper then a decent stroker was. I have found a few deals on stock replacement motors, but not sure I would even trust them in a lawnmower by the way the company's site was, or the reviews seen online for them.. That is the main reason I really started looking more at strokers, was because I figure I I'm going to be spending almost $3k, might as well throw in a little more and have more HP/Tq, every bit extra is nice to have... lol I will be doing my exhaust header, as my stocker is cracked like usual, and will be replacing/upgrading the cat, as it seems as if it might be clogged a bit.. so figure might as well replace/upgrade the remaining section of exhaust to a better sounding/flowing setup.. I plan to run my XJ as a DD (to give my Ram a bit of a break, especially in the winter), and a trail rig... at least until I have the time to go and do more "hardcore" trailing and maybe some rocks.. but don't plan to be any hardcore crawler... maybe one day..
