Cohassett Rd. again

We were at a group get together at a camp a little ways up Cohassett Rd just out of town, so the wife and I decided to go further up the road after lunch. We have been here several times before, but I wanted to show my wife some more rock formations in the area. She really likes big rocks. Sometimes she says, "Hey honey, I want that one for the rock garden". Never mind it is half the size of the house. :rolleye0012:

So we headed up. There was a new mud hole, we just idled through. I didn't feel like washing the Jeep today so no spinning of tires. I can see that this one is going to be a challenge in a few years. Local logging changed the drainage and I was surprised to find it wet when everything else was drying out. But anyway we made the first stop at a lava rock shelf overlooking Devils Kitchen. Had to share it with some other young guys out for the day.

They went on and we stayed for awhile then followed them down the trail. They were blocking the trail taking poser pics, so we just went up a little and around, didn't want to disturb them :rolleye0012:

We went down into the canyon and started back up and found a great camp site.

I am thinking that the National Recon Group needs to come down here and camp. They like to get their vintage military rigs dirty. Anyway it was up the road and a long climb out of Devils Kitchen. We went by some more lava spires on the way.

If you look at the formation on the left, it looks like a cats head. See the ears?

It is spring in the mountains. There is lots of this Red Bud to color up the area.

The Manzanita is in full bloom too. If you put bee hives around this stuff they make phenomenal honey from the blossoms.

Then there was lot of this Buck Brush. It smells good, but don't get too close. See the inch and a half spines on it. It says don't touch all over it.

We climbed up and out and were headed up the next drainage when we decided it was late and turned around and headed for home. Civilization was another five hours away the direction we were going. The last time I was this far down the road in this area was at night at the end of a 105 mile run. Besides, the road had been very rough and the wife was tired of bouncing around. We met the other guys on the way back. They were looking for another trail that cut off towards a highway that paralleled the one we were on, but I had never heard of it. We wished them luck. I think they were in for a very long trip.

Arg! Wished I could have gone with you. Doesn't surprise me there is still mud up there, the snow level was at 2500 feet last week. Now the tempiture is in the 80s enjoy the mud while you can, it will all be gone soon.

Maybe not. The new mud hole will be at the bottom of the logging site between the water bars. The water is coming up from the ground into the road now. It is getting soft and I think that it will just get worse for awhile. Also on one of the traditional mud holes, someone has filled on partially in with dirt. That one will be lots of fun next winter.
